Top 5 Cooling Efficiency Tips for Summer
Summer is quickly passing here in MA, but according to experts we’ve still got lots of heat coming our way in the weeks to come. Lots of heat means lots of A/C time – and lots of money heading to your utility to keep it running.
If you want to keep those bills as low as possible for the rest of summer, here are five great ways to do it.
Use your programmable thermostat – Run your house slightly warmer when no one is home and when you’re sleeping; you’ll save three to five percent per day on air conditioning bills for each degree you raise the thermostat, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
Keep an eye on your air filters – A dirty air filter cuts airflow, causing your air conditioner to overwork; chronic overwork leads to higher bills and costly air conditioning repairs.
Make small, effective investments – Little changes – like adding door sweeps to prevent conditioned air from escaping, re-caulking outside windows, or adding heat-reflecting window treatments – can make a big dent in your home cooling bill. Longer-term investments like adding insulation and sealing ducts can also do wonders.
Service your equipment – If your air conditioner isn’t working properly, call A.S.A.P. – the longer you put it off, the costlier your repair will likely be. If you skipped annual maintenance this year, it’s not too late to schedule a service call and get your cooling system back up and running at peak performance.
There’s still plenty of heat left to come in 2021 – keep those cooling bills in check!
