If you’re planning to upgrade your home’s cooling system, the early spring is a wonderful time to do so. You’re well ahead of the sweltering summer heat, allowing plenty of time to select the right air conditioning product and have it installed.
The team at Needham Oil Complete Heating & Cooling handles quite a few air conditioning installation jobs, more than pretty much anyone in our region. We can give you an idea of how long your A/C installation will take.
Generally, a central air conditioning installation only takes a day. Central A/C systems consist of two components, an indoor evaporator coil and an outdoor condenser. If your home already has these units, the installation mainly involves swapping out equipment and shouldn’t take longer than average.
However, some factors can add time to the installation process.
If your home currently has no central air conditioning, then the process might take as long as a week to complete. The reason is that your HVAC technicians will need to install the entire cooling system, including new wiring, ductwork and vents.
If you have a larger home, the installation process will likely be more extensive. Large living spaces require bigger A/C equipment and sometimes multiple units. Your technician will be able to give you a sense of the scale before work begins.
Older homes are full of surprises, not all of them pleasant. If you’re replacing an old cooling system in a house built before the 1980s, there could be asbestos insulation, which will require remediation.
Similarly, an older air conditioning system that uses R-22 refrigerant is subject to more regulations for disposal.
As you can imagine, this additional work can extend to your installation timeline.
More and more homes in Middlesex and Norfolk counties are installing heat pump systems , especially in older homes that don’t have ductwork. Heat pumps are electric-powered systems that transfer heat between the inside and outside of your home. They are an all-in-one heating and cooling solution.
Heat pumps require less installation time and labor. We can typically install your heat pump system in four to six hours.
Heat pumps have other significant advantages:
