Sherborn made the news when Emily the Cow escaped from a Hopkinton slaughterhouse in 1995 by jumping a fence and eluding capture for 40 days before getting refuge at the Peace Abbey, an interfaith community in Sherborn, where she lived out her life in comfort until she passed in 2003. A statue of Emily marks her grave on Abbey property.
