Needham, our home base

The town of Needham was first settled in 1680. It was an industrial hub in the 19th century. William Carter founded a knitting mill here in 1865 that grew into Carter’s, the children’s clothing company. The Carter family owned the business until 1990.

• The actor Harold Russell, a veteran who lost both of his hands in a training accident during World War II.
