Five Advantages of a Ductless Cooling System
Spring is less than two weeks away, and we’ve already sprung our clocks forward – can warm days and nights be far behind?
When it comes to weather in 2018, anything seems possible – including an early-onset summer. If you’re already dreading the prospect of dragging your dusty, impossibly awkward window air conditioners up the narrow staircase from the basement, don’t worry, we have another option for you: a Mitsubishi ductless system.
Ductless (or mini-split) cooling systems are a simple, cost-effective alternative to ugly, noisy, and inefficient window units – and often to central air conditioners. They’re the cooling solution for homes that have hydronic heating systems (systems with baseboards or radiator heat) rather than forced air systems (systems with vents and ductwork). They’re also a great way to cool home additions.
Compared to traditional cooling systems, ductless systems:
Cost less to operate – Ductless systems are significantly more efficient than window units, often by three SEER points or more. They also require less power to operate than central air units, and can be set up to take advantage of cooling zone efficiencies (see #2 below).
Are easier to customize – The ability to create cooling zones means you can tailor your Mitsubishi ductless system to meet the cooling demands of each room. You can also mount air handlers (the indoor component of a mini-split system) just about anywhere where there’s access to an external wall – even in rooms with no windows!
Can be installed quickly – Each air handler is connected by small pipes to the outdoor condenser unit, so you only need one or two small (3”) holes in your external wall to install a system. In most cases, our technicians can install a ductless system in a day or two.
Deliver healthier air – Your ductwork, with its combination of condensation and cool air, creates the ideal conditions for growing mold and other microorganisms. When you eliminate ducts, you eliminate all mold problems.
Are better for the planet – Efficient ductless systems use less electricity. They also use a refrigerant called R410A, which is more environmentally friendly than other refrigerants.
