Have You Checked Your A/C Filters This Summer?
Your central air conditioning system can last a 15 years or more if it is well maintained – and one of the best ways to keep it running at its best is also one of the easiest: check your air filter once a month during the cooling season, and change or clean it (depending on the model) when it’s dirty.
The question is, have you checked your filter since summer began (be honest – it’s OK, we won’t tell anyone)?
A blocked air filter makes your cooling system overwork to do its job; that overwork can cause some real problems for you now and in the future, including:
- Higher bills – A clogged filter could raise your bills by up to 20 percent.
- Less comfort – Poor air circulation means less comfort for your family.
- Unnecessary and costly repairs – A blocked filter can eventually cause the cooling coil in your A/C to freeze – an expensive problem to fix.
- Early breakdown – Consistent overwork could eventually wear down your compressor, robbing you of years of service for your system.
Changing an air filter is easy to do – just refer to your unit’s owner’s manual for instructions (if you’re having a problem, let us know – we can walk you through it).
Also keep in mind that our technicians replace your air conditioner air filters (and perform many other critical maintenance tasks and tests) as part of a Needham cooling system tune-up.
